This is a short demo version, the final version is approximately 12 minutes long.

Having grown up in Hawaii, I spent many hours on the local beaches, surfing, swimming and just watching the waves and the way the interplay of light and color transformed the quality and mood of the day.  It was only natural for me to want to capture that movement in my art.

“Another Day in Paradise” is truly an amalgam of medias.  When I first imagined the work, my focus was on the waves.  I spent days filming waves at all hours of the day hoping to find the light and movement I was looking for. There are over 100 different layers, animated components and effects that are incorporated in to the painting.

Each of the palm trees have separate animated trunks and leaves, and each of these animated elements are in a sense choreographed with the other moving elements in the painting all combining to bring the natural rhythmic movements we see in the world.  The movement of waves, leaves, clouds and shadow are each meticulously incorporated with their own unique character to bring about the whole.  There is literally nothing in the frame that is not alive, I wanted everything in the painting to be in spirited and compliment the vitality of the entire scene.
